Happy Children’s Day
On April 23, 1920 Grand National Assembly of Turkey was first established in the leadership of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk. This was one of the first milestones on the road leading to the Modern Turkish Republic. Believing that “Children are a new beginning of tomorrow“, Ataturk dedicated this important day to the children not only in Turkey but all over the world. For the first time in the world history, Children started celebrating this special day.
Since then, opening day of the Republic of Turkey’s Grand National Assembly, April 23rd is celebrated as April 23 is the “National Sovereignty and Children’s Day” (23 Nisan Ulusal Egemenlik ve Çocuk Bayramı) in Turkey. This is also a day when children from all over the world visit Turkey, meet with other children, and make new friends.
